The basis of The TOTEM Theatre’s arts education activities is the
reinforcement of the estethic growth of children and young people.
The arts education activity is mainly focused on the school-age
children on the lower grades of the basic school in Espoo. The
participants have received training in creative dance expression and
physical drama expression during long-term process-type projects. An
essential element of the arts education project has been the drama
performance: the participants have seen a performance from The TOTEM
Theatre repertoire. Together, the workshops and the theatre
performance have supported the discovery of the participant’s own
individual ways of expression, and strengthened the understanding of
the meanings of art. In 2005, The TOTEM Theatre has expanded its
arts education towards children aged 1 to 3, by producing day care
centre workshops The Day of a Flower.
