The TOTEM Theatre confines itself to the form of small-scale theatrical performances where visuality, too, continues the minimalistic line. Art is not just something large and impressive. The original esthetics of the performances, created by the combination of different art forms, an expression almost without any words and of visual minimalism, is the artistic choice of The TOTEM Theatre. The unity it creates allows the the audience of children to complement the story with their own thoughts, feelings, and words.

In 2006, The TOTEM Theatre continues its work to develop new drama for children’s theatre in co-operation with versatile professionals of the dramatic art. The TOTEM Theatre 2006 repertoire consists of two plays: HAMMASRATAS and a new work realized by the means of dramatic art. Both are directed at children with the the 5 to 12-year-olds as the target group. The subject matter of the play HAMMASRATAS is shaped in interaction with children; the script is based on ideas provided by children. The theme is Rush. Director Salla Taskinen is responsible for the scripts and direction of the play. The new play, directed by Arn-Henrik Blomqvist, will be completed during autumn 2006. In 2006, there will be approximately 60 to 65 performances for Finnish-speaking, Swedish-speaking and multicultural children.
